Get to know Jacqui:
I was born in Wodonga as a 5th generation local, going to school in the Kiewa Valley and growing up on the family farm as the youngest of 3 sisters, at Staghorn Flat.
I have a Bachelor of Arts majoring in sociology and psychology and a Masters in International Relations, as well as qualifications in business management, community services and justice.
I’ve worked at various organisations within our community such as; Mars Pet Care in research and development and manufacturing, Coffey International as a geo-technician, La Trobe University as student ambassador and campus administration, and within federal politics. Currently I am involved with the National Rural Women's Coalition as a communications advisor and a Director with our local community foundation, the Border Trust.
My employment, studies and roles in community organisations have provided me with a breadth of knowledge and skills in strategic planning, financial accountability as well as an understanding of the integrated economic and social importance of community development.
My decision to stand for the seat of Benambra in the Victorian state election was born from a love of our community. I want to see our communities thrive through effective representation that engages with its community, providing a plan and future for our young people and their families. My vision for Benambra is of a vibrant and connected community which attracts, retains and supports our young people and their families.
Because I have lived, worked, played and studied in the region, I have an understanding of the unique challenges and issues we face as rural, regional and remote communities; and the importance farming and agriculture in our region.
I want to hear and learn from our community about the issues and concerns that matter to them. I am particularly interested in education, transport, business and health, all of which are crucial to Benambra's economic and social development. They support the creation of jobs and access to essential service across our region.
It is my pledge to work with our people, community, business and all levels of government to develop and effect the change we need to see in infrastructure, funding and services. I will be accessible and committed to ensuring our communities voice is heard and represented.
As an independent I’m not bound by party policy, I have the ability to work with all levels of government & will lead with our community’s best interests at heart. My first and foremost responsibility as your independent candidate is to our community.
